Please Note: This page is currently under construction. Many have asked if I would add some sort of help system to my site. What I have here now isn't much, but I hope what I do have here will help you understand how to use my site more. Job-O-MagicJob-O-Magic is many things and in turn the opposite can be said about Job-O-Magic. Job-O-Magic isn't a magical site which will land you your dream job by a click of a button. Job-O-Magic is simply a links index of Job Search Sites and resources. Job-O-Magic is split up into four active sections: Job Search Sites PageAt first Job Search Sites page my seem a bit complex, but once you get use to it, it's quite simple to use. The page is split up into five sections: Boolean Search Although there is a Boolean search, keep in mind that the best way to search for any given site is by using the Job Site Filter. The Boolean Search will only search for keywords found in a site's description whereas the Job Site Filter will allow you to narrow the site list selection down to the precise area of interest. There are two search type options: Search URL This will do a very basic search direct search for a given site's Web Site Address. This option is used to search for a pacific site by URL. Note that most sites listed on Job-O-Magic begin with ‘www.' Using the Search URL by tying in http://www.monster.com will return Monster's web site. Search Description Selecting this option will do a full Boolean Search on each site's description giving a Ranking Score. Fundamental Operators The Boolean Search supports five basic operators:
Shorthand Operators The Boolean Search also supports a shorthand syntax similar to ebay's boolean syntax; the two syntaxes can be intermixed at the users discretion:
Nesting, Grouping, Logical Precedence The Boolean Search is also capable of nested Boolean statements to any plausible depth via the use of parentheses. These characters can also be used to force the order of evaluation of any given statement. Remember that the AND operator has precedence over the OR operator. Featured Sites Feature sites are not ads, but showcase sites that have submitted a full description of what a site offers. I have added Feature Sties to help keep the click flow under control. I found that with out Featured Site, a lot of people were clicking the first Job Site listed just to see how my site works. Featured Sites work in conjunction with the Job Site Filter. Job Sites The basic layout of the Job Search Sites listing is hopefully straight forward. There are three ways you can have the Job Sites listed:
To select the detail of what is shown, click one of the options below the Boolean Search Depending on the detail selected, the following information is shown for each site: Detailed List:

Job Search NavigationThe Navigation panel on the Job Search Sites page is used to navigate between pages and is only shown if there are more then one page of Job Sites. The Navigation panel is straightforward, but there are a few extra items that you can set which will be saved as cookies if your web browser supports them. Sites Per Page With this option you can set how many sites you would like shown per page. Repeat headers This option will allow you to set how many times the the header information will repeat between records shown. Job Site FilterThe Job Site Filter is the heart of Job-O-Magic which will allow you to narrow the job sites down to your exact criteria. The Job Site Filter should be used over the Boolean Search since the filter directly interacts with each site's information shown. Many have found the Job Site Filter to be a bit complicated and not returning the sites they are looking for. One items to remember is to keep it simple. If you over load the Job Site Filter, most likely you will not get any site matches back. It is best to start out by selecting one Job Site Filter item at a time and from there narrow the Job Site Filter criteria down from there. Keep in mind as well that any items selected, the Job Site Filter will return only exact matches found in a given record. Example: selecting ‘All' for Cities will only return records that pacifically have ‘All' marked. To list All cities, select the top option ‘All Cities'. This goes for all other form items as well. The Job Site Filter holds only items that are currently active or found within any given record on the site such as cities and states. You will only find local city names that are currently found within a given record. So if you do not find your city in the dropdown, that means there isn't a site deticated to your local area. This doesn't mean that you will not find a job site that will suit your needs. Examples of the Job Site Filter at work can be seen on the Top Filter Selections page where the top Job Site Filter selections are listed showing the total times used and the total sites found. At the top of the page you will see one of two Filter Status messages: [Filter Active: Click Here to Reset Filter] [Filter Not Active: Click Here to Activate Filter] Clicking on one of the two links will take you to the bottom of the screen where the Job Site Filter is located. To reset the filter, click Reset and this will return the Job Site Filter to it's default showing all Job Search Sites listed on Job-O-Magic. Using the Job Site Filter The Filter itself has two sections. The Basic Filter and the Advanced section which you most likely will not use unless interested in the Job-O-Magic site ratings. The break down of the Filter is as follows: Basic Section
Here you can select what focus your looking for.
Most sites listed on Job-O-Magic are free sites for the job seeker, but there are a few that missed my verification and with this extra Filter options, you can filter out the free jobs sites and show only new sites added to Job-O-Magic. Advanced Section The advanced section is used if you want greater detail, which is cut up into four columns. Search Agent Offers Agent A Job Agent is an option sites will give you to have job notifications directly emailed to you. Message Board If a site offers some sort of message board where you can interact with other job seekers. Ranking The Ranking area will allow you to filter out the top sites. You can select sites that:
The three options Ranking Options are: Score The over all score a site has been given calculated based on the featured offered. Visits Total times a site has been viewed on Job-O-Magic. Rating The over all rating that has been giving by users who have visited a site and given their input on what they thought about a site. Company SitesAs of this point the Company Site listing is very basic and for the most part only lists companies in the Oregon area which have online job postings. Each record has one of three possible links:

Note: To view some documents, you may need to download a plug-in or have the appropriate application. Most sites will have links to the required applications. 2. External Links:
City LinkCity Links is the most active and largest database on Job-O-Magic as of this date. City Links has links for all Official Goverment and Chamber of Commerce site. For the Job Seeker, this would be the best place to start out since you can get a lot of job market information from your local Chamber of Commerce. The City Links page holds a wealth of information for any given site besides the base link. Under each site name when supplied you can see: Accept Relocation When offered this will give you a good idea of the local area's relcation acceptance. Seven possible levels are:

Classification Classification shows the type of Government body or Chamber of Commerce site. As of this point below is an active list of the possible Classifications:
Optional Links Each site listed has 7 possible links to select from: Base Link
This link will take you to the Human Resources page if offered.
If the site has any type of local history set up, this link will take you to that page so you can learn more about the surrounding area.
If the site offers any type of relocation information or relocation packets, this link will be shown.
This will take you to the Carrer Resource page if one has been set up by the Goverment or Chamber of Commerce site to help the job seeker find a job in a local area.
It is always a good idea to go to your Government's local Employment office. You can find a lot of helpful information and get free advice to get you on your feet.
If the site offers a local WebCam, this link will take you to it. Other LinksOther Links has been through many changes through the development of this site. But the main focus of this section is to list all Job Resource links. As of this point there isn't much listed in this section since I've been spending most of my time on the other sections. I hope to get back to this part of the project sometime in the near future. The only optional link you will find in this list is an Human Resource link if the site offers employment. This shouldn't stop you from submitted any sites you think should be added to this section.
